Reigning Sabalenka Wins Back-to-Back WTA Player of the Year Awards.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive season.
The twenty-seven-year-old secured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – which included retaining the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Year of Dominance
Throughout the year, Sabalenka competed in a circuit-leading nine finals, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in the French Open final.
The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She spent the whole season as the world number one, concluding 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Record-Breaking Achievements
Sabalenka finished the season with a 63-12 match record, and picked up a record eleven million pounds in tournament winnings.
She garnered almost 80% of the votes submitted by international tennis media.
On 28 December, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match in a bid to "raise women's tennis to a greater prominence".
Additional WTA Award Honorees
- Comeback Player of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, was voted after taking a extended hiatus after the birth of her first child and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko picked up the award after starting the season ranked beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend earned the title after capturing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five championship matches.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three awards in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third time.
